More than 25 characters in AdWords ad texts

It seems there are some changes going on with dynamic keyword insertion (DKI). AdWords allows to dynamically insert keywords of more than 25 characters... It's a shame as I don't really like this AdWords feature and got rid of it ages ago...

Until now your ad texts couldn't be displayed with ad titles with more than 25 characters. If you used or are using dynamic keyword insertion , you know that keywords of more than 25 characters couldn't be inserted automatically. In this case, it was the default ad text that showed up, that is to say {KeyWord:default ad text}.

But now it seems to have changed and relevant keywords with over 25 characters are actually inserted. I saw such examples for keywords of 30 characters and even 32 characters.

I find this really a shame as it brings back DKI "fashion" and standardization of ad texts again. Some months ago I decided not to use this feature any more. I preferred spending a bit more of time optimizing ad texts without going the lazy way and using DKI anywhere.
